all the self-love and 3 ways to open your heart to receive it

As I write this I am listening to one of the most heart opening playlists I’ve ever created (you can find this playlist in a companion post I wrote about tools to open your heart daily - link below). On a day when we move through the world where so many people are showing their love for one another, I can't help but to think about my own journey with love. More specifically self - love. So here are the 3 ways I’ve learned to open my heart to receive love.

Observe the love around you

It’s been a rocky one.

I haven’t always been my biggest cheerleader.

It takes time and space, patience and dedication ( to yourself! ) to grow into your own skin, body, heart and mind. It took me even longer to love myself while others moved around me loving me, each other and their partners, family and friends. I used to notice this and feel shame. Shame that I couldn’t feel that way, that I couldn't be happier for others. Shame that I didn’t have what they had. Through myth busting my shame and my own  inner work - understanding my own self - worth, taking measures for self - care practices, and just being in the moment with the beauty around me - I learned that love is more accessible than you think. All you have to do is look around and notice it. You can’t help but to feel it.

Commit to yourself and commit to your love

The moment I became committed to myself was the moment I felt ready for other kinds of love to enter my life. The moment I fell in love with my life and the people, places and things around me, was the moment I truly became alive. And this work never really ends and it’s important to understand that. The healing journey is a life long journey. It is a moment to moment dedication to yourself to find the love you have for your own deep, deep inside the chambers of your heart. Finding that inner support to help me pull through when I need it most is the best thing I’ve ever done for myself.

Daily love

I find now that there are things I reach for (sometimes daily) that just open my heart so big that all I feel is always love. It takes work, it’s not always easy. But it is a conscious choice I make everyday to find something ( even just one thing ) that shifts my energy to receive the feeling of love. There are many tools I use and moments I catch myself observing throughout my day to open my heart.

Here are those moments / tools that come and go that always expand my heart tenfold…

keep planting and keep breathing,

Jamie
